Develop Strength and Conditioning Fundamentals In Young Athletes With
Our Weekly Group Sessions
Agility - Balance - Coordination - Strength
We’ve been training Guernsey humans since 2010 and most recently started guiding some of the island’s top young sports stars through our Youth Strength and Conditioning System.
Having worked successfully over the years with the senior island rugby, Gaelic football and squash teams, a variety of individual sports stars and the Guernsey U14 netball, we’ve now formalised the process used to optimise young athletes and complement their sport-specific training.
This is a 5 stage system with progressive stages designed specifically for the typical mindset and physical abilities of each age group.
FUNdamentals: 6-9 years old (Currently unavailable)
Learn To Train: 9-11 years old (NEXT BLOCK STARTS OCTOBER 12TH)
Train To Train: 11-16 years old (NEXT BLOCK STARTS OCTOBER 12TH)
Train To Compete: 16-18 years old (Personal training only)
Train To Win: 18+ years old (Personal training only)
We recently launched our first Youth Training Camps with Learn To Train and Train To Train sessions. Due to great feedback we’re now opening up weekly term time coaching groups.
It’s a crucial time in forming the physical ability to withstand a long ‘career’ in sport and develop the mental capacity to learn and train properly.
It’s also imperative to form positive reactions to winning, losing, progression and personal problem-solving to ensure the athlete can navigate the ups and downs of sport.
These sessions will give the athlete a solid grounding in all of these areas, with longer follow-on programs planned over the coming months.
There are only 12 spaces available in each group to enable a high quality of coaching so please book early to avoid disappointment.
(Please note these are not general health and fitness classes but are designed for those already engaged in sport at any level).
Learn To Train (9-11 years old / Primary School)
The focus of this group is on developing full body strength from the inside out with a focus on core strength and balance combined with introducing movement at fast velocities.
This helps young athletes improve linear speed, change of direction, and the ability to produce both horizontal and vertical force. Emphasis is placed on learning how to land properly to reduce injury risk and build efficient movement patterns.
Training methods can include bodyweight exercises, resistance bands, and medicine balls, allowing athletes to develop strength and coordination without heavily loading the spine.
Equally important is creating a positive training environment. Athletes will always receive encouragement and feedback that recognises improvement and effort, especially those who are not consistently winning.
Reinforcing progress helps build confidence, motivation, and long-term development.
Train To Train (11-16 years old / Secondary School)
At this stage, athletes are still developing on a macro level, with an emphasis on building broad athletic qualities while continuing to develop sport-specific skills.
Strength and Conditioning sessions will introduce key movement patterns such as squatting, hinging, and rotation, alongside horizontal and vertical pushing and pulling actions.
Change-of-direction plyometrics will also be included to improve movement efficiency and coordination and increasingly ‘bullet-proof’ the body.
The mental focus here is to approach each repetition with intent and focus, encouraging athletes to compete with themselves and maintain high standards of execution. This mindset helps reinforce skill learning, builds consistency, and supports long-term athletic development.
Who?
All sessions will be led by Head Coach Jon Le Tocq who has a strong background in coaching adult and young athletes, and injury rehabilitation.
He competed for Guernsey at youth level in football and county level tennis and in more recent years, has completed a wide range of running, cycling, strength and fitness challenges around the world.
